Venue: Nagarkot, Bhaktapur
We went to Nagarkot as a part of field visit in order to perform a research on Tourism of that place. This was a requirement of our subject named ‘Sociology for Business’ in BIM 2nd semester. Our main motto of the visit was to fill up the questionnaire and analyse the data collected from it. We asked questions to both locals/villagers and hotel/restaurant owners.
Besides from our work, we had lot of fun over there. Although, the weather was not welcoming enough for us to enjoy all the sceneries and views over there, we had a lot of fun even when we were doing our work. Boys were cracking jokes all the time and even making fun and mockery of teachers. Even though it was not ethical, we were not worried about it. The students were divided into groups but we walked together with two groups.
The most alarming thing in Nagarkot was price of the things. Oh my god! Rs. 50 for a single cup of tea. This was disheartening enough to make local tourist to never return over there. But this was my 2nd time to Nagarkot. That’s me in the picture below visting Nagarkot back in 2011 when I was 11 years old.

We didn’t visit to the tower which is in the upper part of the Nagarkot. The view tower was in danger already back in 2011 and I heard it is in the same condition which made me really sad. The renovation of the renowned structures should have been done timely with no excuses but sadly due to mere negligence of local authorities, it was not done.
Slowly, the place is losing its significance due to pollution. There were too less international tourists visiting over there. The concentration of Indian tourists was high and often they create problem due to ignorance towards the environment. Nagarkot is very scenic place and you could only enjoy the true essence of it when you protect the environment as well.
The business people were not that friendly as well. It does not include the local people. When we were there for filling up the questionnaire, we got very rude respose which made us feel that they were there for only monetary purposes.
Despite all the negatives and positives, I really enjoyed the field visit. This was a first experience of visit with my bachelor’s friends. It would remain as a fond memory for my lifetime and I hope I would make many more such memories in the coming days.
